Press Release [ 08:00 o’clock ]

Pristina, January 9, 2011 - The coalition of NGOs Democracy in Action is monitoring the voting process in the municipalities of Skenderaj, Drenas, Decani and two pooling centres in the Lipjan and Malishevė.

As reported by our observers on the field, up to 8:00AM all polling stations opened on time, except for the polling station 2114b/01r, where the hold-up of 15 minutes occurred due to the delay of the Commissioners.

Our monitors have also reported that two polling stations (0319e/01r and 02) in the village of Lower Zabel - Drenas were closed for 45 minutes, due to the large presence of party observers refusing to leave the polling station.

Meanwhile, in the voting centres in Syriganė 2119b Skenderaj (settlement inhabited by the Serb community) the voting occurred in a private home and not in school as foreseen with official list.

Democracy in Action invites political parties to demonstrate political responsibility and to conduct a fair and democratic race.

Democracy in Action also encourages all citizens to use their constitutional right and vote, in order to elect their representatives in the Assembly.

Democracy in Action this time has engaged over 500 observers, two for each polling station, one from the respective municipality, and one from other municipalities.
